4140 Admission Procedures

The State of Hawai'i requires all children to attend either a public or private school until the age of 18 (Hawai'i Revised Statute 302A-1132). Exception to this rule requires the acceptance of a child to an appropriate alternative educational program and the completion and approval of Form 4140 - Exceptions to Compulsory Education with their home public school. 
 
Currently, Hawai'i State Community School for Adults offers one alternative educational options for students at least 16 years of age - the High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential Program:
  • General Education Development (GED) Test or
  • High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)
