Adult Education

Adult Education is concerned with life-long learning and programs are designed to accommodate the interested and changing needs of individuals as they seek to expand their knowledge and improve their skills as parents, workers, citizens and participating members of communities.  HSCSA’s Adult Education program areas include Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, English Language Acquisition, High School Equivalency Credentials, Career Foundations, and Workforce Development programs.

Act 108 of the 1945 Territorial Legislature (currently Part 1 of Chapter 201 of the Hawai`i Revised Statues) established the public school adult education program in Hawai`i and assigned it as a responsibility of the Department of Education.  The intent of Act 108 was to meet the needs of adults desiring educational assistance for a variety of personal, social, and cultural needs.
